Toybox Tuesday (June 23, 2009)

Playground Love

Ah, the very first Toybox Tuesday–a salute to childlike wonder.  Here’s some awesome stuff I’ve found lately.

Introducing “Isobel Oval”

As a writer AND fashionable person, I was immediately drawn into this post by Gala Darling–a week in the life of an invented persona.  This is a great “just for fun” exercise in storytelling and character development (with bonus invented wardrobe photos!).

Grizzly Bear – “Two Weeks”

Cool song/music video with footage from “La Ballon Rouge” by Albert Lamorisse:

I also recommend the official video, which is less dynamic but rather funny.

The Disposable Memory Project

There’s been a lot of buzz about this lately, and it’s certainly worth sharing. From the website: “We’re leaving disposable cameras around the world. People are picking them up, taking a few photos and passing them on, eventually returning home – so we can tell their stories.” Visit the website for more info, cool photos, and information on how to participate.

Poem: “Storm Catechism” by Kim Addonizio

The gods are rinsing their just-boiled pasta
in a colander, which is why
it is humid and fitfully raining
down here in the steel sink of mortal life.
Sometimes you can smell the truffle oil
and hear the ambrosia being knocked back,
sometimes you catch a drift
of laughter in that thunder crack: Zeus
knocking over his glass, spilling lightning
into a tree . . .

Audrey Tautou for Chanel No.5

Many of you know her as Amélie–well, she’s more than that.  And now she’s doing commercials, you say? Well, it’s more than that, too.  Check out this short film for Chanel No.5 (which I’ve been hanging onto for awhile).  You won’t be disappointed.

That’s it! Enjoy your Tuesday!

  • Aaaand as always creepy stalking gets the girl only in the movies / because the guy involved is hot :P

Audrey Tautou was adorable as Amelie and gorgeous in this film; I’ve also always wanted to travel around Europe by train, their trains are supposed to be pretty amazing.
